Open Screen Recorder.
Launch the app to see its Screenshot and Record buttons. Opening the app or its menu does not begin a capture.
Choose screenshot or recording.
Pick the capture type first. For a recording, choose whether to include system sound. Microphone capture is optional and is off by default.
Drag to select an area.
The menu hides and a crosshair appears over a dimmed screen. Drag a rectangle; release to take the screenshot or begin recording. Press Escape, or click without dragging, to cancel. A selection must be at least 10 × 10 output pixels.
Stop a recording when you’re done.
A small timer and Stop toolbar appears beside the region. Click Stop to finish, or use Stop & Save from the menu bar. Capture shortcuts start a capture; they do not stop or interrupt one already in progress.
Choose a save location.
After capture finishes, use the Save option to select a folder and file name. Screenshots use PNG; recordings use MP4. You can choose your Desktop or another location.
Your Mac shortcuts stay yours.
Screen Recorder starts with global shortcuts off. In Capture settings → Keyboard shortcuts, you can optionally assign separate Screenshot and Record combinations. Each must include Command plus a non-modifier key, and the two combinations must differ. Native macOS screenshot and Spotlight shortcuts are reserved: Screen Recorder never asks you to disable them.
A saved shortcut opens its region selector directly, even when the capture menu is hidden. Clear either shortcut to return that action to click-only operation. If a combination is already in use, choose another.
